Black Diamond Ranch digs out its place as a top FL golf community

A luxurious golf community away from the often chaotic pace of today's world, Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto is close enough to city life to keep residents in the loop and close to all the amenities of big cities, but secluded enough - and full enough of its own amenities - that residents will feel they are truly a world apart. Add in incredible Tom Fazio golf and it's easy to see why it is acknowledged as a top golf community.

The Deltona Club - FloridaCOURSE REVIEW

Renovation of Deltona Club in Florida elevates it to one of the best in the area

Golf course designer Bobby Weed totally re-did the Deltona Club, formerly known as the Deltona Hills Golf and Country Club, adding new grass to tees, fairways and greens and installing ubiquitous waste areas. If you enjoy playing graceful Florida golf courses with atypical elevation and rolling fairways, you should make plans for playing the Deltona Club in the city of Deltona, a great stop for golfers on the way to Orlando.

Fixing your golf game

I recently visited a golf academy. I wanted to find out how to get out of bunkers in one shot, and I needed serious surgery on my direction control so I could reach more greens in regulation.

RESORT REVIEWS

Inn at Wildwood: Get golf game on among yellow-billed cuckoos

The Inn at Wildwood is a Florida golf resort that is within reach of myriad outdoor activities on Florida's "Forgotten Coast." It's a place that advertises itself as an "eco-friendly, nature-based lodge" and that's obvious from the start, both from its wooded location, so close to the Gulf of Mexico and a variety of freshwater and brackish rivers. And while the natural elements will grab your attention, the golf helps make it a solid golf vacation destination.

Rent a Mercedes or build a sandcastle at the Ritz-Carlton in Key Biscayne near Miami

The Ritz-Carlton on Key Biscayne is Miami's only AAA Five Diamond resort, and it's a beauty, stuck out on the end of what they call here their "island paradise." The resort overlooks the bay and the ocean, and has pretty much everything you would expect from a five-diamond resort, from the 20,000-square-foot spa to excellent restaurants. And with Crandon Park golf course nearby, it's an excellent place to stay on your next Florida golf vacation.

Clay County, outside Jacksonville, expands its golf repertoire with Eagle Landing G.C.

The first thing you notice at Eagle Landing Golf Club near Jacksonville is the impressive, year-old, 8,000-square-foot clubhouse, National Golf Editor Tim McDonald writes. The second thing you notice are the practice facilities: The 80,000-square-foot driving range is better than some courses in the Jacksonville area, with a double-ended driving range, a good-sized lake and target bunkers facing both directions.

Step into nature at The Perry Golf and Country Club in rural Florida

Sure, Perry Golf and Country Club is so far out in the North Florida sticks that Jed Clampett would be lonesome. Perry itself isn't exactly a glittering metropolis, and its golf course is on the outskirts of nowhere. But the good thing about the location is that there is nothing man-made to intrude on your round - no houses, condos or traffic noise. "That's one of the reasons I came out here," said Joel Thorpe of Tallahassee.

There are no springs at Rainbow Springs Golf and Country Club, but plenty of challenges

When you hear the name Rainbow Springs Golf and Country Club, you immediately expect water to play a big part in you round. But this scenic golf course in Dunnellon doesn't have a drop of water to drown your golf ball. And while not being flavored by the nearby Rainbow River, this course is still a beauty that plays through the semi-rolling hills in this part of the state, 20 miles south of Ocala in the southwest part of Marion County. And with tough angles that demand accuracy, it's a golf course that will still give players an interesting day.

Innisbrook Resort's Island golf course near Tampa draws some attention away from sibling Copperhead

A Florida golf standout, Innisbrook is home to the famous Copperhead golf course, one that many PGA Tour pros call their favorite when they make their annual swing through the Sunshine State. But the Island golf course at Innisbrook is Copperhead's older brother and was Innisbrook's first course. A picturesque track with a lowcountry feel that attracted all the members down from the North, it appears that the course and its members are now seeing this beautiful run get the attention it deserves.

Walt Disney Resort's golf courses are not at all Mickey Mouse but PGA-caliber in Orlando

The Walt Disney World Resort is known for its amusement parks and attractions. But its golf courses - the Magnolia, the Palm, Oak Trail, and the nine-hole Osprey - also have a strong reputation, boasting diverse layouts and have been around as long as Cinderella's Castle. The PGA Tour has long made a Disney a stomping ground, as have golf travelers from around the globe who recognize Orlando as a top golf destination. Because Walt Disney Resort will give you all the fun a family can handle, while giving golfers challenges that are far from being Mickey Mouse.
